City Runs
City Runs provides running routes in cities around the UK. It also offers training plans and articles for new and experienced runners.
City Runs was launched in 2005. 5 year later it was decided to launch a new version of the website, to give it a fresh new look and an architecture that is easier to update and to navigate.
The website is now built with Expression Engine CMS. This gives it a number of powerful features and confidence the software will never be restrictive for the sites development. The City Runs team now have a great admin interface for adding new content. Advertisers on the site can even login and update their own adverts and company information.
City Runs provides a lot of resources for runners, including blogs and training plans - but the main focus of the site is providing maps of running routes in cities around the UK. This feature has been kept at the heart of the site with the inclusion of a postcode finder on every page.
The route pages make use of Google Maps, with custom maps being used on every page. Route maps can be created from within the website’s admin pages and published to the site without having to link to separate Google Maps.
